Children in the Middle

The Children in the Middle (or Kinder in die Mitte – KiM) initiative seeks to address the various problems that young families from various educational and social backgrounds encounter with the education of their children. It does so by encouraging dialogue between all the relevant stakeholders: politicians, civil servants, social workers, parents, children, educators, to develop a vision for the future that is more child and family friendly. The KiM project aims to address the numerous challenges that young families from various educational and social backgrounds encounter with the education of their children in the Austrian Vorarlberger region.

Departure: Service Agency for Creative Industries

‘Departure’ is the service agency for creative industries that offers funding to businesses undertaking creative and cultural activities in the city of Vienna. The investment is backed up by the idea that creativity plays an essential role in the promotion of economic, urban and social development of the city, contributing also to its cultural diversity, quality of life and prosperity. Departure helps  businesses in the field of the creative industries by providing financial support, as well as consulting services and training.

Austrian National Award for Adult Education 2009, category "thematic focus" 2009: creativity

The Austrian National Award for Adult Education has been conferred since 1956, since 2008 in 4 different categories: The category "adult educator" recognizes individuals and their outstanding services and achievements in adult education. The category "innovation" focusses on innovative Austrian educational measures and opportunities for adults. In the category "science" the jury elects a person who has worked or is still working continuously for an extended period of time in the field of adult education and has had a lasting scientific influence on this field.
Referring to the European Year of Creativity and Innovation the thematic focus in 2009 is "creativity", for which an amount of € 5.000 will be awarded. Submissions to the Austrian National Award for Adult Education were possible from 7 May to 16 June 2009. An expert jury determines the best submissions, which are posted from 8 September to 14 October 2009 as part of an online-voting on www.erwachsenenbildung.at. The Award will be conferred by Federal Minister Claudia Schmied during a festive gala on 17 November 2009.

I'm great the way I learn

The project “I'm great the way I learn” introduced ‘Europe’ and its cultural diversity to children with special needs through new and fun learning methods. It brought together schools from Austria England, Iceland, France, Portugal, Romania and the Netherlands, to provide children with possibilities to discover various aspects of European cultures. The exchange between the participating
children offered them a taste of other cultures and a chance to present their own ideas in a framework that was extraordinary to the school’s daily activities. The aim of the “I'm great the way I learn” project is to introduce and tell children with special needs about Europe.

Jugend Innovativ

Jugend Innovativ (Creative youth) is a national competition for students in the age from 15 to 20 years aiming to encourage the development of innovative ideas and development of concrete solutions in the fields of business, design, engineering and science. The competition takes place since 1987 and promotes the interest of young people in technology, natural sciences and innovation. The approach of Jugend Innovativ is based on project team competition and often involves Austrian companies that provide students with concrete challenges to solve in a selected activity area. This competitive approach is not only increasing the motivation and fun related to the experimentation and elaboration of innovative solutions, but also provides students with insights and skills necessary to work in the selected professional field. This initiative aims to encourage the development of innovative ideas in the fields of business, design, engineering and science.
