Art therapy for mental health patients

The project encourages new and creative ways to deal with patients with psychiatric problems. Through supporting the use of art therapy in diagnosis and treatment process, the project aims to change the perceptions and experiences of mental health patients. The art works created by mental health patients are exhibited to the general public. This also changes pre-conceived perceptions of mental health problems in society.

Arts in a Roma school

“Arts in a Roma school” is an innovative practice developed by a Slovak arts teacher, Jan Sajko. The practice created and implemented new teaching methods for students from poor Roma communities. The children were encouraged to work at their own pace, enjoy their creative work and develop their own personal ways of expression. The practice draws from the richness of Roma culture to stimulate the creativity of children. It has been developed in the school of Jarovnice (near Prešov, Slovakia), an institute attended only by Roma students, mostly living in very poor social conditions.

Dreams and teams

Dreams and Teams is an international programme which aims to promote leadership and citizenship skills in young people (generally aged 14-19 years old) through sport. Its main purpose (through its slogan ‘Think globally – act locally’) is to motivate young people to think and act differently, thus fostering creative thinking. In Slovakia, 12 upper secondary schools take part in the project and have developed a solid link with partner schools in the United Kingdom.
