Milestones in my life

Who influenced me

I was influenced by any good art, regardless of its genre, starting with Stravinsky, ending with Kafka.

I have studied choreography at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (VŠMU) in Bratislava, under the direction of professor Štefan Nosáľ and at the Institute For Dance And Dance Instruction in the Belgian Antwerp. Later on, I acquired job as the solo dancer in the H. F. Dansetheatre Amsterdam, and was teaching modern dance at the International Dance Stage Bornem in Belgium.

To do good theatre is my favourite job.


My major achievements

In 1993, I have founded the twelve-member Balet Torzo, which was the first attempt for a professional theatre of modern dance in Slovakia, introducing the first full-length performance, Responsio Mortifera. For Torso, I have created several other choreographies: Padajúce dni (Falling days), UM-BA, To hlasy ľudu slovanského (The Voices Of Slavonic People), Jarný program (Spring Program), Stravinsky Weddings.

In 1997, I co-founded and was artistic director of the Bratislava Dance Theatre (BDT). With this body, I have directed the première program Weddings, dance theatre Firebird, children’s musical O Jankovi Hraškovi (Story Of A Boy, Little As A Pea) and the multimedia project, Romeo and Juliet.

In 2003, I founded the dance grouping GASP. The rhythmical-dance show was seen so far by 120 thousand viewers.

In 2005, I have founded the Slovak Dance Theatre (SDT), which continues in the tradition of BDT. For the SDT, I directed titles of total theatre, connecting the dance and dramatic components: Bolero / Story Of A Mother (2005), … On Your Graves (2006) , Swan Lake „Labuťko“ (2007), Firebird (2008) .

For the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, I have directed Igor Stravinsky's Rite Of Spring (1995), ballets Rasputin (2003) and Spartacus (2004), ballet fairy tale Popolvár (Ashman) (2007). I ma a guest director and choreographer of some prestigious foreign theatres. For the State Opera in Prague, I have adapted Faust and Margaret (1997) and the monumental ballet My Country (2005), for the ballet of the National Theatre in Brno, the work Goblin (1997), for the theatre of J. K. Tyl in Plzeň, The Magic Flute (1999). A milestone in my production was the première of author’s work, Firebird, studied with the Japanese collective Tokyo Metropolitan City Ballet (2004) and introduced in the New National Theatre, Tokyo.

In the Czech Republic and in Slovakia, I have realized the musicals Little Shop Of Horrors (1997), Grease (1999), Dirty Dancing (2004), Full Monty! (2005), Na skle maľované (Painted On Glass) (2006), Don’t Take Our Princess (2006) Blood Brothers (2007) and West Side Story (2008).

In terms of choreography, I have cooperated at musicals Some Like It Hot, Hamlet, Balada o zlodejovi koní (Ballad Of A Horse-Stealer), Gypsies Are Found Near Heaven, Cabaret , Cage Of Fools and Producers for the Nová Scéna Theatre in Bratislava; Maria Stuart, Greek Zorba for Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra; Sweet Charity and Oliver Twist for State Theatre in Košice.

I also took part in the dance mega-project Circus World for Slovenský ľudový a umelecký kolektív (Slovak Folk-Artistic Collective) (SĽUK) or the adrenaline show Slovak Street Session.

I am holder of the award Crystal Wing for the staging Tree for SĽUK.

My choreographies were introduced in Centro Cultural de Bellas Artes in Madrid, in the World Financial Center in New York, at the International Arts Festival, Tokyo and in the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
