Jean-Philippe Courtois

Technologist, business leader

Milestones in my life

Jean-Philippe Courtois is one of the leading Europeans in the global technology industry. With over 25 years of industry experience as president he now leads Microsoft’s international strategy and operations in over 200 countries around the world.

He instinctively wanted a different path after graduating from college – one where innovation, creativity and hard work would determine his success rather than a predetermined career path. His opportunity came in his second year of business school, when Jean-Philippe and a friend built a software accounting solution for a local video shop. From this simple introduction to software, he joined a small French software company and in 1984 joined Microsoft, a small company with around 200 employees but with a bold long term vision to put a computer on every desktop and in every home.

He is passionate about everything it takes to invent, create and innovate in ways that help people and businesses become more successful. He sits on the board of PlaNet Finance, an international Microfinance NGO and is a member of the Institute Montaigne. He served as co-chairman of the World Economic Forum's Global Digital Divide Initiative Task Force. And within Microsoft, he has championed the company-wide response on how to use software and services to achieve Europe’s Jobs and Growth Agenda.
